We’ve made the decision to work on stepping away from the electronics and purposefully interacting with our boys more often. We do try to spend a lot of time together as a family but we want to make sure that we are setting aside time specifically for them. They love to talk about what WE used to do as kids. You know, back in the olden days.

One of the things my husband used to do with his dad was build model cars. The boys were super excited to get the chance to work on some Revell SnapTite® model kits that they picked out together. The fun thing is that Jared (my husband) used this same brand when he was a kid. He got to tell the boys how they didn’t have the SnapTite® models when he was a kid and he wished they had!

The boys picked out a ’57 Chevy Bel Air and an Enzo Ferrari. Choosing the cars was the hardest part!

These are great for my beginning builders because they don’t require glue or paint like the advanced models. It definitely helped to have Dad explaining all the steps to them! You snap out the parts and assemble. It does take a bit of paying attention to detail which is great for them to learn.

Working on projects like this is such a great way to connect and talk with your kids. As a mom I loved having all the noise turned off!

Dad talked to them about engines, proper names for the different car parts and about how his Dad used to help him sand down pieces and how they’d wait for the glue to dry.

Even going over the photos is putting a huge smile on my face. Talking about his childhood with his boys – so awesome.

When they were done they were so proud of their work. It really was a great reward for their patience and attention to detail. Then came the discussion of whose room would house them.

I highly encourage you to set aside whatever time you have available and unplug. Find things to do and interact with your kids that require all of your attention to be on them. They soak it up!

Revell has a huge model kit selection to choose from – classic cars, planes, ships, you name
it. These model kits are available at hobby shops across the U.S., Hobby Lobby and Michaels
stores, as well as select Walmart stores.

Revell wants to extend this fun to TWO of you! Yes there will be TWO winners!

Each winner will receive a $50 Hobby Lobby gift card and a Revell SnapTite® model kit of your choice!

  1. What a great idea! I just found your site and will be coming back again and again! I recently started a blog about my family's journey to unplug and reconnect. Today my post was on building forts and I linked here to your Friday Fort posts! I love them! I hope to see you in my neck of the woods! Take care!
