I mentioned a few weeks ago that we were going to see The Lion King at ASU Gammage. We went last week and wanted to share our experience and a fun Lion King activity to celebrate at home. The 4 of us went on a Thursday evening and couldn’t wait to see what everyone has been talking about.
If you’ve already seen it you know, but if you haven’t it is AMAZING! The boys absolutely loved it and it’s SUCH a great way to introduce them to new forms of art and entertainment. I mentioned before that we’ve been to plenty of local theater shows but nothing this big. They were blown away.
The costumes, the music and just the feeling the music and movement gives is such an awesome experience. The opening act with all the animals gave me goosebumps and I couldn’t decide whether to watch the show or the boys’ faces!
We had to convince them that all the music was being played live – they couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t thought about how digital we are now that it’s hard for kids to believe that all this music has to come from somewhere. I almost wish they could have seen the orchestra.

The boys are now super excited to see more shows. Peter and the Starcatcher is next on our list.
One of the things we are still talking about are the amazing costumes. We were so impressed with the ingenuity and creativeness of all the costumes. The boys loved the lions, hyenas and cheetah. I decided to keep their excitement going and showed my youngest how to put on a little production of his own with a white sheet hung over the shower curtain rod, a flashlight and some cut out animals taped to straws.

I'm not a stage show enthusiast. At all. But this is THE most amazing show. Absolutely brilliant. (And I saw it BEFORE I had a kid…)
