Surviving Sick Days – DIY Dry Erase Book

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Please see policies for more information.

I’m happy to be back with Part 2 of our “Surviving Sick Days” series with Children’s Mucinex! In our first post we talked about staying healthy (we all try SO hard) but when the cold or flu does hit I definitely go into full blown Mom mode. I love being a mom and I love being able to take care of my kiddos.

A great way to put a smile on your kids’ faces is with a Sick Days bucket. Fill a bucket/basket with activities, crafts, games, etc. so that in addition to the tv, your kids have a lot of options at hand.

One thing I made for them that they couldn’t put down is our “My Crazy Family” album. It’s a dry erase album with photos of family members that you can decorate however you want, erase, and do it all over again.

I used a smaller 3 ring binder with 5.5″x8.5″ page protectors but any size will work. You could even just clip the page protectors onto a clipboard. For the photos I lightened them up before printing so that the drawings would show up better.

To keep the markers with the album I glued elastic onto the inside of the binder that the markers could slip into.

You could add plain paper, words to practice writing, coloring pages with their favorite characters – whatever you think they’d like best and get the most use out of. I put 1 photo in each protector so the other side would be blank.

That’s it! They can draw and erase as much as they want. This album puts a HUGE smile on my boys’ faces.

So fun! We always have a nice cup with a straw in our sick bucket as well.

  1. What a great idea! Watching movies all day gets old real quick. I think this would be a great cheer up for a sick friend too. I love C's art-especially the tats!

  2. Lego's always make my son smile =) ((Sometimes I think he fakes sick just so he can play with them all day, haha))

  3. My kids just love snuggling, drawing together or being read to, when they are sick.

  4. My kids like it when I make them their favorite homemade chicken soup – that and a good read-aloud book make them smile.

  5. My kiddo loves watching movies and cuddling with just me, it makes him smile if I can send his little brother somewhere and he can be home sick without competing for attention.

  6. This is such an awesome idea! Love it! We've got the sniffles today and play dough and movies seem to be helping 🙂

  7. My little one still enjoys reading those funny stories he loves even when he is well.

  8. My kids like to color together or work on word searches or mazes when they are not feeling well.

  9. I am soooo pinning this idea! I am definitely going to do this… maybe for an upcoming birthday!

One thing we love doing when someone is down is watching YouTube videos… usually we type "funny baby" and laugh the time away.

  10. When my son is feeling poorly, we love to snuggle up together on the sofa and watch a favourite movie. Usually Cars 🙂 We don't have an actual TV, just a projector and a screen which we get out on special occassions, so it's a special treat for him.

  12. My boys love to snuggle with me and watch a good movie or read a book or sleep.

  13. I love this idea! My kiddos like dry erase stuff as it is, and this brings it to another level. Did you use regular paper or photo paper? Anyhoo… when my kiddos are sick they/we like to cuddle on the couch and watch a movie. It lets them rest but passes the time in a fun way.

When my kids are feeling under the weather, they like to rest with a bunch of pillows and a special cuddle blanket and watch tv.

  15. When we spend time reading together, or doing any other craft projects at home, and television, they always feel better.

  16. My son seems to really perk up when playing with Play Doh and Moon Sand! Its odd but it seems to help him feel better.

  21. Forts or tents in the living room never fail to make a little guy feel a little better! We can read books in there, pretend to be camping in our favorite place – Yellowstone, watch a movie through the "tent door", or just snuggling mom and dad in the tent are all great ways to cheer up my boys 🙂

when my kids are sick they stay in my bed to rest and watch tv

  23. I found this idea just in time to try it out for me and my boys who are all down with the stomach bug. My 6 year old absolutely loved this activity! My 4 year old mostly just needed cuddles, but I think Mucinex definitely would not work for the stomach bug!

  24. They like to drink ginger ale and watch whatever they want on tv.

  25. snuggles are important when feeling sick, but when they need to be alone its movies or their personal favorite show.
