Summer Snacks the kids can make themselves

It’s SUMMER! It’s no secret that I’m pretty much in love with summer. One thing that I’ve noticed this summer about having 2 boys at home all day is how much they eat! My oldest (11) has taken an interest in preparing food like his dad so we are all about finding snacks he can make himself that he knows I’ll approve of. While shopping at Safeway this weekend he noticed a new version of his favorite non-dairy milk option (he couldn’t tolerate dairy as a baby so never really loved the taste) – Silk Almond Coconut Blend and Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber. Of course I let him grab some so we could do a taste test.

His favorite snack is a smoothie with almond milk. We try to throw in some greens but has a dessert smoothie they can just use fruit. Both boys like to play around with which fruit and milks they use. Today he decided on a simple frozen berry + banana + Silk Almond Coconut Blend milk smoothie.

My 9 year old isn’t a huge fan of smoothies (maybe the texture?) so he likes to make the leftovers into a frozen treat. We loved the new Silk Almond Blends by themselves but especially in the smoothies. It make for a really perfect texture. Other snacks my boys like to throw together are:

  • snack trays (nuts, fruit, chips, cold cuts)
  • no bake cookies
  • 5 minute ice cream (using Silk makes it dairy free!)
  • popcorn
  • almond butter on celery with chocolate chips
  • gluten free toast

I’m definitely starting to see the benefits of having older kids around the house. Especially during summer 😉 What kind of snacks do your kids make on their own?
