We have a rule about not using phones at the dinner table unless it’s to show everyone something or in some way contribute to the conversation. We recently downloaded the new free app from Scholastic Parent & Child called KidQ to see if we could add it to our dinnertime “regulars”.

KidThe KidQ app is free to download on iPhone and/or Android. You can set it up to alert you with a new question everyday. It displays a question like Why is the sky blue? And Why do we say “ears” of corn? and then gives you the answer along with some other fun tips. It’s such a fun way to spark long (sometimes silly) dinner conversations.

KidQ appMy boys are all about fun facts so we have really begun to love using this app. If I forget or dismiss the reminder they’ll ask me what the question of the day is (you can prompt it to give you another question too if you want more). We’ve been loving using it at dinnertime and long car rides.

It’s a simple, fun conversation starter and we’ve been loving it! You can download the KidQ app here.

    We use a riddle/ brain teaser app called Brain Bran to get discussion happening at our dinner table too. Our nearly 12-year-old loves it and is baffled when her parents sometimes get the answer right!
