This is another fun, easy experiment to do with the kids. My son thought I was nuts when I told him where to stand. He kept trying to move around the bottle 😉 Start with a candle and a bottle or glass.
Now try the same with a box (we used a cut cereal box so it was about the same size as the bottle). Make sure you hold the box or put a heavy rock inside so you don’t blow it onto the candle.
He kept trying but couldn’t get it to go out! The air follows the box until it hits the corner then it just keeps going in that direction instead of turning the corner. It is possible to blow hard enough to make the air swirl around to possibly blow out the candle, but he couldn’t get it to work which helped to prove my point!
Another fun trick to do is to say that you can blow out the candle behind 3 bottles (just leave a bit of space between them so your air can travel around the middle bottle)!
*Always watch kids around fire.
