We love a good movie night around here so we have been planning what we’d do to celebrate the DVD/Blu-Ray release of Inside Out for a while! We loved the movie AND the short film “Lava” that showed before it in theaters.
We picked up our DVD/Blu-Ray copy at Target as soon as it came out! The boys loved that the Blu-Ray copy we got from Target included 20 minutes of exclusive bonus content and deleted scenes (they love that stuff). We also LOVED the new short “Riley’s First Date?” that comes with the bonus content on the Blu-Ray. It’s hysterical!
Back to movie night – so the boys are always big fans of pizza and since they are older I like to set up pizza bars where they can pretty much do everything on their own. We like trying different things to make pizza out of so we created a memory ball mini pizza bar using bagels and english muffins as the crust.
We made “memory balls” out of regular pizza toppings that we picked up at Target like peppers, onions, pepperoni, canadian bacon and cheese! You can make small circles using a stiff straw poked into the peppers or onions. I even cut the cheese into circles. We couldn’t have an Inside Out pizza bar without broccoli so I added a bit of roasted broccoli to the bar as well!
The boys added their toppings and we baked them for about 5 minutes at 400F with another minute on broil.
They were so good, even the broccoli pizza!
We love the scene towards the end of the movie where they show inside a 12/13 year old boy’s head when he runs into Riley. I thought it would be funny to make up the warning sign (seen above) to make my boys laugh and they LOVED it! We’ve been talking about a way for the boys to create a marquee sign so I suggested we try and make one with this warning sign that we can use to gift the movie to friends. I’ll show you what we did!
When I was on my regular Target Run I found this perfect red box in the holiday section. It’s an 8″ square so I knew it would be a good size to create with.
Print out this printable and trim. If you’re using a smaller box you could wrap the printable around the entire top. I liked the gold from this box so I trimmed mine just a bit so it would show on the edges.
Glue the printable to the top of the box.
Next I marked where I wanted the holes for the lights to go through. I had 2 battery operated light sets (that I picked up from Target) for a total of 36 lights. That meant I needed 9 holes on each edge.
I poked through each hole making sure it was big enough for the light to go through. Then I added all the lights into the holes.
To secure the battery pack just use some tape! This way you could re-use the lights for something else later if you wanted.
That’s it! You could use this same idea for any type of marquee. We loved how you could hang up just the lid and use as a marquee or still use the box and give this as a fun gift presentation with something inside!
All that crafting got us ready for dessert so I surprised the boys with lava cake since we all love the short so much. I even made up some “I Lava You” printable flags to stick into the dessert. These are super simple but made them look so cute. Just print out this printable, trim and attach a toothpick with tape.
This is the problem with Target, I go in to buy Inside Out,
and walk out completely inspired and with everything needed for movie night dinner, dessert and crafts lol! One stop shopping is the best though isn’t it?! Get more inspiration from Target on their Facebook / Twitter / Instagram if you don’t already. I love following them on Pinterest too!
