We LOVE a good movie night around here! It’s such a fun reason to have family and friends over and to set some time aside to eat, craft and relax with each other.

Fun backyard Minions movie night party! When we saw that Minions was out on Blu-Ray/DVD (it came out 12/8/15) in this cute Metalpak exclusively for Target the boys were already starting to plan our next movie night. They love exclusive content and this pack has 40 minutes of it so they busted into that as soon as we got home!

minions-in-storeWe’ve been doing outdoor movie nights lately because the weather has been perfect for it. I always like to plan a fun craft or activity to do, especially if we have other kids coming over. It extends the fun and gives them something to do to keep them busy.

For this movie night party we had some friends over, grilled some hot dogs and hamburgers, made pillowcases to use while we watched the movie, made some ornaments and had our favorite campfire dessert – roasted bananas!

I made up the decorations the day before. I love to go simple but make it obvious what movie we’re watching. I made up a simple banner in yellow and blue. A minion shape in yellow and letters in blue. I had the kids punch holes in the top for easy stringing.

Fun backyard Minions movie night party! Fun backyard Minions movie night party! When the kids got here we did a little more crafting. For the pillowcases I cut some yellow felt into minion shapes. They got to add the details and then we used fabric glue to attach them to the plain King sized pillow cases. These will just be used for play so I’m not worried about them coming off.

Fun backyard Minions movie night party! For the ornaments we found these cute little playsets at Target that are just the perfect size (they have tons of other great Minions merchandise as well). The kids raided my craft supply and we used hot glue to attach them to the plastic ornaments. For snow we just used some sugar!

I set up a little snack bar before the sun went down with popcorn (of course), toppings for the roasted bananas, drinks and some extra fries or snacks that we didn’t eat with our dinner. As people came later, we threw more hot dogs on the grill (which is why it’s such a great choice for food)!

We drew some eyes onto yellow paper bags, put an LED tea light inside and had the perfect little walkway from the back door to the cozy movie seats!

As Minions started up we got the kids started on the roasted bananas. Get a piece of heavy duty foil and place a banana on top. Cut the banana down the center (I like to slice the banana as well). Then add toppings. We used chocolate chips, marshmallows, caramel pieces, coconut and cookie crumbles. Close up the foil and add to the fire. I ended up using some extra foil to attach it to a smore’s stick and used that to move it around. It should be melted after 5-7 minutes and ready to eat! Be careful with the hot foil though. The adults always do that part.

Fun backyard Minions movie night party! This makes a great birthday party, but it’s also just a fun excuse to have some friends over. The best part is you can get everything on your regular Target run! I love that we get inspired to create a whole movie night just from running to Target to get some toilet paper lol! The Minions metalpak at Target also has a fun party planner as part of the bonus content with invitations, decorations, recipes games etc. So check that out after you buy it!
