One of my favorite things is getting fun surprises in the mail. My kids are no different and with all the awesome monthly subscription boxes out there, we’ve been trying quite a few different ones!

Creation Crate is a DIY tech education subscription box service that provides fun and innovative electronics projects. Even if you’re not super tech savvy this subscription box is an awesome introduction into tech hardware. You’ll learn how to code, create and use things like sensors, coding, robotics and more.

I knew this would be right up my kids’ alley so Creation Crate sent us one to try out. We LOVED our first box. I got into it almost as much as my boys. Each box comes with an UNO R3 (Arduino-compatible), Push buttons, Potentiometers, Voltage regulators, Sensors, Jack connectors, Buzzers, LEDs, Resistors, Capacitors, Breadboards, Jumper wires, and more! (The components you get depend on the project you are building.) Every project also comes with a detailed instruction booklet walking you through each step of creation and coding.

This is the BEST way I’ve found for my boys to learn. Telling them how to do things only goes so far. By using and creating with the Creation Crate they have hands on experience with things like coding and how every tiny detail makes a difference.

Here’s a quick video of us unpacking and using our first Creation Crate Box:

The light changes and is motion censored. It was completely coded by the kids and they got to see how each line of code made a difference in what they created. Beyond that, they got to build their own motion censored lamp with some components they’ve never worked with before.

The Creation Crate subscription ranges from $29.99 for just one month to $22.49 for a 12 month subscription. Their most popular plan is the 3 months for $26.99/month plan, I’m sure to see how much the kids (or adults) love the boxes. Honestly this is great for kids OR adults who are makers but might not have ever done anything with electronics like this before.
