I love art we all have but I struggled a bit finding inspiration for my kids. Now entertainment is totally different with all kinds of streaming content and I just had to share with you this adorable show on Amazon Prime called Creative Galaxy! They are partnering with us to create this fun interactive project and I am SO glad they did! It’s a super cute cartoon (geared towards preschoolers but I think that will inspire older siblings as well) that integrates art along with real kids creating art from the episode (think YouTube type video that all the kids are into these days).

You can check out the first season on Amazon now and Season 2 premieres on September 16!

“Creative Galaxy, from Out of the Blue Enterprises (Super Why!, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood), is a “make-along, create-along” animated art adventure series that celebrates creative thinking through crafts, story, music, and dance. The series follows the adventures of Arty and his silly side-kick Epiphany, as they travel around the galaxy to solve problems using many different forms of art. Each episode highlights a uniquecreative medium (painting, music, sculpting, cooking, etc.) to reinforce to kids that art is all around us in many different forms. The interactive stories and live action segments encourage young viewers at home to get excited about their own creative ideas and the process of using creative arts to solve problems!”

Season 2 features 11 brand-new, two-part episodes with 24 live action craft segments – and many famous friends! Brooke Shields, Jason Priestly, Samantha Bee, Lisa Loeb, Donovan Patton and Cloris Leachman are just some of celebrities who lend their voices to characters who appear throughout the show.

I love creating (even though I wouldn’t consider myself traditionally artistic) and thought I’d inspire you all with a Creative Galaxy craft to do with your kids that they’ll love whether they’ve seen the show yet or not!

Arty is the alien from Creative Galaxy and he’s easily made from different shapes. One of my favorite crafts to do with kids is a cup jumping craft so here’s how to make an alien (or Arty) who can jump into space!

You’ll need 2 plastic cups, a rubber band, paper, scissors and your favorite adhesive along with whatever art supplies you have on hand.

Start with his head and ears which are circles and an oval.

Then move on to his body and whatever details you like!

Glue them all together and let dry completely if you’re using a wet glue.

Next, an adult can prepare one of the cups by punching 4 holes near the opening of the cup.

Cut a rubber band or two, insert into the holes and tie on the edges to form a cross.

Glue arty to the cup with the rubber bands at the bottom. Hot glue works great for this because it holds well!

Before he jumps, he needs a galaxy to jump into don’t you think?! To create a simple galaxy art piece you’ll need a black poster board, a toothbrush and acrylic paint in white, pink, blue, silver or whatever colors you like.

Start by creating swirls or whispy lines of color. No need for fancy tools, even a paper towel will work to get the color on!

Once you have some swirls of color, it’s time for the stars! Start with white acrylic paint. If it’s thick, add some water to thin it out.

and “flick” onto the poster board using your thumb/finger.

If you end up with some big splotches (which is likely with kids) that’s ok! Take a toothpick and make big stars or planets!

Now it’s time for arty to fly into space.

Place Arty’s cup with the rubber bands onto another cup.

Gently push down and then let go!

He goes flying!

I love when art and play mix – it’s my favorite way to get kids excited about creating!
