Boy Room Makeover: After + A Giveaway!

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Please see policies for more information.

In our “Boy Room Makeover: Before” post we showed you our inspiration to makeover my 9-year-old boy’s room. We used the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap® app to match a photo we took to coordinating Sherwin-Williams paint colors. This is the photo we used

And we chose the color called SW 6244 Naval. We went with Sherwin-Williams Emerald™ Paint, which is a paint and primer in one with advanced stain-blocking technology. With exceptional coverage and washability, it’s perfect for my kids’ rooms. I already know from experience that it washes up really well!

Back to the room- here’s what it looked like before as a reminder

and what it looks like after

I absolutely love this color. It’s such a gorgeous deep navy and was a perfect compromise to the black he initially wanted.

I was worried about how many coats it would take to make such a dark color completely coat the lighter color, but it only took 2 coats and it’s so nicely even with a beautiful finish.

I love when the sun hits it – a perfect blue!

The whole process from choosing the color using the ColorSnap® app, to purchasing the paint, to actually applying it to the walls was so easy I was just waiting for something to be off (but nothing was). I really loved how well the Emerald™ Paint went on the walls. I kept going back in to check for spots to be touched up and couldn’t find any!

We had a lot of fun adding accessories using the color palette we chose from the ColorSnap® app as well. I love how involved my son got in the whole process. He was super excited to buy his paint and a few new accessories and organizational supplies for his room.

Even though his room is small, I love how the dark color makes it feel like it just keeps going. The way we finally decided to lay out his furniture helped a lot as well!

I definitely recommend checking out the ColorSnap® app when trying to choose a color for your room. Also, do yourself a favor and go with the Emerald™ Paint. You won’t regret the time you save applying AND cleaning up your walls.

  1. I'm in Canada so not eligible but I just wanted to say I love the colour. I'd be so scared to paint a child's room this dark but with the light it really works!

  2. Every room needs paint in our house-but my dining room is where I would like to start!

  3. Oh it looks so nice! Makes me want to make over my kids rooms… but there's a laundry reno on the cards before that and it's going very slowly.

  4. Definitely our master bedroom. It's drab white walls are getting a little boring.

Love what you have done in the boy's room. I have boys and we still have that young age-pastel colors in his room. Time for a makeover. love the color you used!

  6. We have a small bathroom that needs new paint and also toying with repainting the dining room in a fun bold color!

It's definitely a toss up between the kitchen, bathroom, and both bedrooms. I absolutely love all the after photos. You did a fantastic job.

Where wouldn't I makeover? The whole house could use it but I'd started with our bedroom for daily inspiration.

  9. I love the navy. I did that same color as a stripe in my son's room. As for SW, I would love to paint our basement family room.

  10. We are getting ready to move this summer and my boys will have their own rooms. I would paint one of their rooms – they are so excited!

  11. I am trying to figure out what color to paint our family room right now! I'm thinking a steel blue, but I haven't figured out the right one to go with our fireplace.

  12. I was just at Sherwin Williams yesterday! I picked up some paint samples for our living room…walls and trim. That's where I'm wanting to start.

I LOVE the makeover! And I would do my 7 yr olds sons room as well!!!!

  14. I would paint my kitchen, or my entire stairwell. Or my bedroom or living room. My house is *gasp* all white, so there's plenty of options!

  15. I've been planning to add a dark smoky blue color to the wall behind our fireplace. This sounds like great stuff for being able to wash any soot that might get on the wall.

  16. I need to makeover my living room because there is no paint or pictures on the walls. Winning this gift card would help buy quality paint!

  17. Definately my sons room… used to be my office (snore)! Just discovered your blog last week! Love it! thanks for the inspiration!

  18. We desperately need to repaint our foyer and stairs. I'd say Boy's room but we did that last summer. 🙂

I love that room! How fun! I'd like to redo my master bedroom…it's a sight!

  20. I would love to make over my son's room! He is 7 and the last time I really did a lot for his room was before he was born! I have a good bed set and desk but I would like to paint the desk and his walls. Thank you for the opportunity!

  21. I love that vertical slat-and-knob hanger, the one with the backpack. Where is that from? That would be a perfect problem-solver in our room. Love the makeover!

  22. I would paint my upstairs bathroom, the colors are too dark for the space so I would like to paint it a pale green

  23. Our master bathroom for sure! It really needs a new coat of paint…the pale green in there is so boring!

  24. I love the wall shelving/sliding knobs that you've used. Where can I look for these? My boys' room needs it! (And so smart to go with the dark color! Our room has dirty footprints all over the wall from when they're convinced they have Spider-Man abilities.)

  25. I would make over my children's bedroom
