Giving Back with P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Please see policies for more information.

This post is sponsored by Sponsored by The Motherhood in partnership with Procter and Gamble in an effort to help get this awesome product to more families that need it.

My goal over the next couple of years is to work with the boys to give back in some way each time we travel. I want them to realize how truly blessed we are with the opportunities we have and how we can use our blessings to help others.

I had seen the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program before but I never realized how much they helped families have access to safe drinking water. I know we take for granted our easy access to clean, safe drinking water. Imagine your day to day lives without that easy access.

The boys & I received a kit to see just how the cleaning packets worked. The technology is simple to use: with only a bucket, a spoon, a cloth and a small P&G packet, people can purify 10 liters of dirty water in 30 minutes, enough drinking water for a family of five for one day.

We started with our dirty water.

Added the P&G packet and stirred for 5 minutes.

You can actually see it working.

The boys thought this was definitely some cool technology!

I suggested we think of ways to help get these packets to everyone that needs them. According to World Health Organization (WHO)/UNICEF (2014), 663 million people lack access to an improved water source. 663 MILLION. And because those millions of families don’t have clean water to drink, contaminated water ends up killing more children than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined. That’s crazy! So what can we do to help?

First watch this video:

Then leave a comment below telling me what you thought of the video. I’ll randomly select 1 commenter to receive a P&G product basket (value of at least $50) and a $30 donation in your honor to provide clean water for a family in need for one year.

No purchase necessary.  Void where prohibited. Open to legal residents of US & DC who are 18 years of age or older.  Giveaway starts 10/22/2015 and ends 11/01/2015.  Sponsored by The Motherhood in partnership with Procter and Gamble. For the full list of rules, click here.

You can also help by donating to the program at csdw.org. A small amount makes a big difference. It costs about 10 cents to share a P&G packet with a family in a developing country, and each one provides enough drinking water for a family of five for an entire day.

  • $7.50 provides enough water for a year for a child
  • $30 provides enough water for an entire family for a year

Finally, you can share the Power of Clean Water video above on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter to donate a day of clean water to a child in need.

I love when companies make it easy for us to give back, but it also makes me think we should be doing so much more. How do you get your kids involved in giving back? We can always use more ideas!
