Last weekend we got to see an advanced screening of Dreamworks Animation’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. It opens in theaters everywhere today!

CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is based off of the book series Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey, which my brother and I were huge fans of in grade school (and now).

The movie is very faithful to the books especially with its humor, as well as the art style and story.

The story of the movie mixed the stories of a few of the books as some characters who appeared in later books make appearances here. Fans of the books will also be happy to see some references made directly to the books themselves, so make sure you look out for those if you’re a fan (like flip-o-rama).

I felt that the movie was just the right length and had a story that was memorable enough that you didn’t have to keep recalling the story. Another thing that made the movie awesome was the music. The music fits the movie perfectly and the Captain Underpants theme song is one of my favorites because it’s by “Weird Al” Yankovic who I am a huge fan of!

I asked my brother what he thought and this is what he told me. “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, was a very good movie! The things I enjoyed most was the art style, the character design, and how close it was to the original source. My brother and I always liked reading Captain Underpants, so it brought back a few memories. The potty humor in the movie was actually pretty funny, I didn’t expect to laugh so much! I also enjoyed the music by Weird Al (of course).”

My brother and I both enjoyed the movie a ton and think it’s the perfect summer movie for the family! We even heard Mom laugh a few times.

Mom note: if your kids haven’t read the books yet, definitely check them out. All the potty humor they could want and a series they’ll love.
