Everyone knows that summers are HOT in Phoenix. Staying by the pool is a perfect choice for the middle of the day but once the sun goes down, we love to venture out. Desert Botanical Garden is having flashlight tours throughout the summer and we had to check them out! The evenings bring out different animals, sights and lots of new sounds so it’s a great time to visit the Garden.
We arrived when it was still light out so we got to enjoy some of the plants in daylight.
The BEST part for me was being there to see the sun set!
It is a self guided tour so you can go at your own (or your kids’) pace. You do need to bring your own flashlights or buy one in the gift shop. We were walking behind a little boy around 4 years old who was having a BLAST checking out the stuff we found with our flashlight like frogs, toads and lizards.
There are stations set up to interact with guests, give fun facts and information, and just add to the fun of the event. Kids will love looking for plants and animals with flashlights (because who doesn’t), amazing stargazing, a fun area to cool off, putting together and playing in a tent, practicing building a fire and learning about the desert through fun activities and exploration.
There are lots of great restaurants nearby so make it a night out with dinner, flashlight tours and then some ice cream! The flashlight tours are running Thursday and Saturday nights (until September 2nd) from 7-9:30pm. If the weather has been iffy you can check the Garden’s website to make sure they are still holding the flashlight tours that evening. They also post updates on their Facebook page if you want to check there first as well.
