Parker has loved music for as long as I can remember. We have videos of him singing his favorite songs when he was two. And they weren’t little kid songs! We’ve talked about taking guitar lessons but never really found any near us that felt right. When we saw that you could learn to play guitar online through Fender Play we knew instantly that it was what we’d been waiting for! Learn to play guitar online with Fender Play

Fender Play is a guided online learning program that teaches new guitar players to get playing in minutes. And it definitely worked within minutes for Parker!  They have hundreds of instructional videos and hands-on exercises and new players can take a learning path based on their musical preferences. The curriculum is designed so that after a few short lessons, a player will be able to learn something new, whether it’s a skill, a recognizable riff or a full song.

The videos are perfect to learn from and they even have split-screen and an over-the-shoulder angles to make it even easier to understand. The curriculum is created by experts and of course Fender themselves. We love that it’s song based so that you can learn to play the songs you love not the ones from the old guitar lesson books (I hated that when I was learning piano). They break the songs down to the basics first so you can learn slowly. Being an online service you can go at your own pace too!

Parker chose the Fender Stratocaster to learn on and he is LOVING it. He loves that you can choose whatever lesson you want whenever you want and that you not only get to choose your music, but you can change it up whenever you feel like it. We listen to all types of music so he’s already watched and participated in some lessons with music from Bob Marley, Stone Temple Pilots, Rolling Stones, Everclear…

So why learn guitar? Besides the love of music, kids who learn guitar do well socially – they’re more confident, develop coordination and math skills, concentration and more. I love this video that Fender put together about the benefits of playing guitar.

The service is only $19.99 a month but you can sign up for a free 30 day trial to see how you like it first. You’ll get

  • Unlimited access to hundreds of video lessons
  • Instructor-designed lesson paths to guide your journey
  • Hear it/Learn it/Play it: Easy-to-learn songs lessons
  • Tips, tricks, advice, glossaries and gear buying tips
  • New lessons added regularly

It’s an incredible deal and just the type of service that my tech savvy son really loves. He plays every day and is always showing us new riffs he’s learned (check out our Instagram to hear him play a little bit of a Bob Marley song). Since he’s started Colton (my youngest) actually got inspired to learn himself so I’ve been hearing them both in separate rooms practicing guitar and they both are sounding pretty good! I’ve been thinking maybe I should learn myself. I don’t have room in the schedule for regularly scheduled lessons but I could definitely do some when I have little free spots throughout the day.

If you or your kids have even considered learning to play, or even if you haven’t, definitely check out Fender Play. We’ll check back in in a few months to let you know how our progress is going!
