Pirate Night Aboard the Disney Wonder + DIY Disney Shirts

One of the first things I did after reserving our Disney Cruise was figure out what we were going to do for Pirate Night! I had seen some photos online and knew that Disney does a fun pirate night party complete with fireworks at sea. Having 2 older boys I figured they weren’t going to be super excited to wear full blown costumes so I came up with some simple DIY shirts for all 3 of them.Pirate Night aboard the Disney Wonder + DIY Pirate Tees!I actually made up the files for the boys’ shirts. I let them choose which phrases and if they wanted an image or not. We ended up with “Why is the rum always gone?” (for Dad of course), “A pirate’s life for me” and “Dead men tell no tales”. I’ve made shirts with freezer paper stencils and fabric paint but I have to say that using heat transfer vinyl is SO much easier!Pirate Night aboard the Disney Wonder + DIY Pirate Tees!

To make shirts with heat transfer vinyl you basically just cut out your design and apply heat over the design to get it to adhere to the shirt. This can be done with an iron, or if you’re lucky like me and have a friend with a heat press you can use that too. I may just break down and buy one for myself!  The designs can be cut out with a craft knife or a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette (especially handy for extra intricate designs). T-shirt making party with Vinyl Expressions

Some friends and I got together for a fun t-shirt making night thanks to Expressions Vinyl! They sent over some vinyl for us to check out and while I’m a plain white or black vinyl girl at heart I have to say the foil looked REALLY cool on a death star shirt. I also thought the glitter, holographic and glow in the dark was pretty cool too!T-shirt making party with Vinyl Expressions

Since I had a pirate “costume” picked out for me I need a shirt to make for myself as well (the boys can’t have all the fun). I found this adorable cut file from The Polka Dot Chair that was exactly what I was thinking so I didn’t even have to design that one!

I measured my shirt, resized the file and cut out on a Cricut.T-shirt making party with Vinyl Expressions T-shirt making party with Vinyl Expressions T-shirt making party with Vinyl Expressions

Using transfer tape (highly recommend) we placed the design on the shirt, covered it with another piece of fabric and pressed the heat plate down.diy-disney-shirts - 9

Perfection!

The shirts have held up SO well. Want to make pirate shirts of your own? Here are the files for those:

So how was Pirate Night IN the Caribbean? So much fun! We had late dinner so we grabbed a photo before, went to dinner and then straight up to a higher deck to watch the fireworks and see the party below. It was the perfect spot for us!

Afterwards they have a full pirate buffet which the boys sampled from.
