My boys have been a little obsessed with jewelry lately. It feels weird calling it jewelry maybe accessories? Anyway it started with those cheap neon friendship bracelets. You know the ones you can get at the arcade with your tickets? Then it moved up a little when my oldest (9) found a leather bracelet after the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disneyland. Now he wants to wear accessories everyday.

I thought maybe they’d like to make some of their own like these from Honestly…wtf

That didn’t last too long – they just wanted to choose the colors and have ME make them. I didn’t feel like making them either (maybe when life slows down a bit or I’m in the car driving to CA). Then I saw this tutorial to make a braided Hex Nut bracelet and figured I’d give it a go!

I bought silver hex nuts thinking they looked a little more industrial than the gold. It took me a while to get the hang of keeping the nuts in place while braiding (maybe I’m not as crafty as I thought) but I finished it! Before I could tie the last knot the boys were fighting over whose it was. I guess it was a hit!

I’m thinking next we’ll tackle leather bracelets maybe with some grommets or stamping?

What do you think? Are your kids into accessories of some sort?

  1. I am giggling a little…my boys LOVE to craft!!! I know I can't be the only one sitting here wondering why there are not more boy crafts out there?!?!? This looks super fun and I think we will give it a go! Thanks for the idea…don't you love how the boys will keep you on your toes?

  2. My kids, especially my younger boy LOVES accessories….but, like your situation, they would probably participate for 30 seconds before telling me to do them. They look great, though! My kids would ROCK that hex nut bracelet!

  3. I just found your blog after you posted about my friend's blog (Craft, Interrupted!). I'm so glad to have found another blog about boys! My oldest son would LOVE this bracelet. I will be putting this on the list of activities for the summer!! Thanks 🙂

  4. I have a son who loves accessories. I was hoping you had some ideas…thanks!
