First of all, have you seen the new Ghostbusters movie?! I took my teen and we both LOVED it! It’s still in theaters if you haven’t yet. We are fans of the original and weren’t sure what we’d think, but we thought it was great. Since he loved it so much I thought I’d theme his back-to-school surprise (I make them one every year) to Ghostbusters and included some new ghost themed joke notes since I haven’t made new ones for a while!
I found some really fun stickers, collectibles and back to school Ghostbusters items at Walmart along with some awesome snacks for the year like M&M’s®, MARS Mixed Minis and Milky Way® Midnight Miniatures. I even found a Ghostbusters themed bottle of M&M’s® that he can use to store things in when he’s done snacking.
Since I love making everything a special surprise I packaged everything up in a fun way to make the start of a new school year seem special and worth celebrating. The Ghostbusters pencil box was perfect to hold all kinds of fun things including:
- candy
- collectible/mini figures
- USB eraser combo (Ghostbusters themed of course)
- a sticker for his notebook
- our family favorite cup of his own which I put a sticker on so he can claim it as his
- a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man backpack clip (that we found out later makes noise)!
- new ghost joke notes
We always love a good cheesy joke and I haven’t made new notes in a while so I made up a brand new set of ghost joke notes to throw in lunch boxes (with a note not the back if you want), to add to a back-to-school surprise like this or that you can cut out and add to a binder ring with your other notes!
I love having a big party sized bag of Peanut M&M’s® on hand so I can make cookies when needed. Use your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe but sub the Peanut M&M’s® for chocolate chips! So good!
These were a perfect homemade treat to add to the back-to-school surprise as well. Putting together themed gifts is one of my favorite way to show someone I’m thinking about them and know what they love. And Parker definitely LOVED this Ghostbusters themed back-to-school surprise. Some treats, fun themed surprises, joke and a note from Mom – what more could you want?! 😉
Check out more fun back to school ideas here. I love the Slime Smoothie and Stay Puft Marshmallow men!

I love all the Ghostubsters themed merchandise. Those lunch box notes though, so fun! #client
