We’ve been watching the new season of American Ninja Warrior on NBC and I have to say it’s one of the few shows on tv we all can sit down to watch together. I love the back stories and of course the competition. With all the new edgy “push the boundaries” entertainment coming out (which I watch, just not within earshot of the boys) I feel like there’s less and less we can all watch together. What ever happened to TGIF anyway? Anyone else watch that with their parents?

Anyway, back to my point – we’ve been watching this season and just like before it gives my boys the itch to create their own American Ninja Warrior competition and it usually ends up in this similar format in the backyard, at night, with flashlights.

American Ninja Warrior inspired backyard obstacle course. A fun outdoor activity for summer nights! This is the same kid who still stands in front of the tv with a light saber when watching Star Wars so I shouldn’t be surprised that 15 minutes into American Ninja Warrior he’s usually jumping or hanging on something.

I’m sure it’s not just my kids either, so I love that there’s a show, that without really trying, is encouraging activity and fun interaction in kids and families. Luckily we have a few of those indoor jump places around with a  parkour type course in it that we can go to and get some of that energy out in a safe way too.

What shows have you been watching as a family? I’d love to add some more to our list!
