Boy Room Makeover: Before + A Giveaway!

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Please see policies for more information.

Ever since my oldest got his room made over, my youngest has been dying to have his room done as well. When we moved in we kind of just threw everything in their rooms, cleaned up a bit and left them at that. We’ve been working room by room, and it’s finally his turn. It’s hard being the little brother sometimes.
One of the biggest decisions of the room was the paint color. My boys are not ones to shy away from their opinions, so I knew he’d definitely have a say in the paint we chose. We decided to try out the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap® app. I thought he’d love using the app on my iPhone, and I was definitely right.

Easy to use, the free ColorSnap® app quickly and easily matches images you capture with your smartphone to the palette of 1,500 Sherwin-Williams paint colors. You just snap an image (or choose one already on your phone) and get up to eight matching Sherwin-Williams colors from the photo, or match a specific color and get coordinating color recommendations.

You can choose which parts of the photo the colors are chosen from which was really important to me because I knew we wanted color and not a neutral. We pulled up a photo we had taken on a little date of ours to a model home. He fell in love with the loft/play area, so I thought it would be fun to use it as color inspiration for his own room makeover.

When he started picking colors I was actually really impressed with his choices and saw a scheme coming together already, but we went ahead and played a bit with another photo he took himself just to be sure. We were able to save colors to our Saved Colors library to compare palettes or share via Facebook and email.

As soon as I saw the color Naval SW 6244 I knew that was it. He talked about wanting his room painted black, but once he started playing with the ColorSnap® app he thought maybe blue would be a better color. Naval looks like that perfect compromise of a gorgeous deep dark navy, and I can’t wait to get it on his walls! I think we’ll use colors from both of these palettes for the rest of his room.

Sherwin-Williams has some great visual inspiration on their Pinterest and Instagram if you’re looking for even more color ideas.

Here’s what his room looks like now:

I’m excited to show you the full reveal, but until then how about a giveaway?!

  1. I'd definitely work on my 3 year old's room. He just became a big brother and I know he'd love to have something special done to his room!

  2. I would make over my boy's bathroom. We need some excitement in there to encourage a little one to stay in there and use the potty:)

  3. I would make over my master bedroom! We just finished a girl's room and are working on our boys bedroom now…can't wait to do something to my own bedroom!

  4. I desperately want to paint our stairs/foyer. The white/off-white (the previous owner was a fan of both- every wall in the house is practically a different shade of off-white. There were more than 40 cans of paint in the garage when we moved in) is scratched, scuffed and dirty. I want to put a grey-blue up on the walls instead.

  5. Now that our boys are getting older, we could definitely freshen up their room.

  6. I would make over the kitchen if I won this one and thanks for the wonderful chance.

  7. Sherwin Williams can help me decorate my son's room! He is the last child to have his room complete. I'm so happy to almost have everyone in their special room after a year in our home!

I would love to paint my dining room which has had some work done but never got repainted!

  9. I'd pick my living room because it is currently a terrible band-aid pink and looks so un-pulled together. I think paint and some new throw pillows would go a long, long way toward improving it!

  10. i would repaint our kitchen/dining room as we are currently in the middle of remodeling both.

  11. I would be doing our boys' room for sure. We need to do a make-over to make it look less babyish and more big boy theme. Plus, they love to help me with any project in the house, as they say "they're working!!" Love your blog and the ideas you share for boys as I have 2 as well.

  12. I'd make over my son's room. When he was little, he started peeling the paint off his wall, and it desperately needs to be redone.

  13. I'd decorate my son's bedroom. He was born with a condition called arthrogryposis in 2012 and I just haven't have time to finish his room. I want to do a "Handbook of Nature Studies" room, and I need the perfect yellowish green for the walls. After 2 years of therapy, he's doing really, really well and it's time for him to have his own space that will work for him.

  14. I'd love to makeover my daughter's room

  15. My living room definitely needs a makeover! I just moved into a new apartment and nothing is on the walls and my furniture is pathetic!

  16. Entered the rafflecopter form as "Wild Orchid"

Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Although my room probably needs it more, I"m a mom, so my little man would probably get his room done! 🙂

I would makeover my seven year old son's room. His decor is from when he was 3 so it's beyond time for an update!!! He would be so excited!

  19. I would work on our dining room… the only room in our rental that didn't get a fresh coat of paint before we moved in.

  20. I would love to make over my children's playroom, it’s a very bland color and just not an inviting space for them to play in!

  21. Our master bedroom for sure. We are always last on the list/budget haha It NEEDS it:)

  22. I promised daughter I would paint her room. I would go ahead and do that for her as long as she doesnt pick a crazy color! neyabenz(at)gmail(dot)com
