My 10 year old and I both cannot eat gluten. Eating at home is no big deal for us, but eating out and at friends’ house can be somewhat of a challenge. Parker is our house’s newest football fan. We’ve always loved football parties (what’s not to love? food, friends, football, commercials) and have hosted several ourselves! With football party season in full swing it’s inevitable that we’ll be headed to more and more parties soon. As his mom I strive to make parties (especially football parties) fun for him NOT another eating burden. I had a great idea and solution!

We headed to our favorite store – Target armed with some Rubbermaid coupons. You can print them out at

Once we found the entire isle of food storage there were SO many options to choose from. I was so excited to see these Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids containers in glass. I chose this 10 piece set thinking it would be perfect for what I had in mind but there was such a huge range of sizes. The TakeAlongs are great for parties as well and are at a great price point to leave behind as a gift!

I got home and unloaded and had to see for myself how the lids “attached” to the bottom (that’s why they are Easy Find Lids) You just sort of snap the container onto the top of the lid and it stays put.

My plan was to create a whole football snack food spread that was allergy friendly for us and whatever friends may have the same needs. The problem at a football party that while one thing might be ok, others aren’t and cross contamination can (and does) happen easily. By making and bringing our own we know exactly what is ok and can have a whole spread that is safe!

I made rolls with gluten free tortillas, ham, and pickles, hot bean dip, salsa, cheese, fruit, and chips! I loved that these glass containers I bought can go in the oven so my hot bean dip was baked right in the container!

The lids seal perfectly (they are waterproof) so taking them to go is easy and mess free. I have had my share of party food transporation issues 😉 Excited to use them to take the boys’ fav veggie beef soup to friends’ houses.

Once we get to the party the lids can just go right under the container and stay together the whole time! No lost/missing lids and now Parker knows which containers are ours as well. A win-win.

I made our spread a little more fun with some football party printables

Once home the leftovers stay in the containers and can go straight in the fridge! LOVE these.
