Are you and/or your kids Pokemon fans? Then you’ll love this fun DIY Poké Ball pumpkin. You can use a craft or real pumpkin and create your own Poké Ball with a secret surprise!
This year I found some already cut out shadow box pumpkins, but you can easily enough cut one out using a craft knife. You could also use a real pumpkin if you’re a traditionalist.
Painting these craft pumpkins can be a little tricky because the paint doesn’t like to adhere well all the time. I tried both acrylic paint and spray paint and found that a spray paint meant for plastic or metal works well, just let it dry before taping off to paint the next color. If using another kind of paint just be prepared to apply a few coats.
To paint each side I taped a plastic bag to one half, painted, let dry and then did the other side trying to not apply tape to the fresh paint as much as possible. If you plan on keeping this for future use you’re definitely going to want to use a sealer. You could even lightly sand the pumpkin before hand for better paint adhesion.
Once dry, add some black tape like washi tape or electrical tape in between the red and white. Cut out some circles and glue onto the back.
Print your favorite Pokémon, cut out and tape a toothpick to the back. Then, just stick into the middle of the pumpkin.
To light it up at night, just add a battery operated candle!
We LOVE how this turned out and the boys decided that it would go in their room instead of the front of the house. This took a little longer than normal pumpkin decorating because of dry time, but is so fun. I can’t wait to display it on Halloween to see what the trick or treaters think!
