Back to school means new supplies, new clothes, physicals and should include an eye exam! I have worn glasses since I was in 3rd grade and one of my kids followed in my footsteps. They both go in for yearly exams though because there’s so much more to an eye exam than just the prescription.
We started visiting our local Pearle Vision at Desert Ridge Marketplace and absolutely love the atmosphere, the staff, Dr. Paul and their awesome selection of glasses. They have THE best selection of new frames that we’ve ever gone through and Parker has never had a hard time finding frames that fit his personality that he loves. He is constantly getting compliments on his glasses and we always tell people to check out their neighborhood Pearle Vision.
We thought we’d take you along on our yearly visit so you could see what it’s like.
The exams are so comprehensive. Parker likes seeing the pictures of the inside of his eyes. Dr. Paul always has some cool story about how eye exams and equipment compare to “back in the day”. They also make the visits so quick and easy. Even with a couple of other families there, we all were taken care of and everyone was happy to be there getting their exams.
One thing I love is that they always do a great job explaining things to my kids. Not just doing the exam and signing off a piece of paper. They explain all the tests, what they do, how they work and how their eyes did. This makes the visit fun for them and not a chore at all to do! They do things like: pupil dilation, a visual acuity test (sharpness of vision), colorblind test (Parker is actually slightly colorblind), eye cover test, a glaucoma test and more.
Parker’s favorite part of visiting our local Pearle Vision though, is picking out new glasses. We really love their selection and I can’t help but looking for new ones for myself while picking up some for him as well! He found an awesome pair this year that are handmade and super cool. Plus, they were ready fast and he’s already wearing them! MY favorite part was learning that Parker’s prescription changed and knowing that he would now be prepared to fully learn in school. 80% of what children learn is through their eyes! The importance of healthy eyes cannot be stressed enough, and with his new specs, Parker won’t miss a beat. He will be able to participate to his fullest ability in all his favorite activities AND all his favorite (and least favorite) classes.
Right in time for back to school, check out your neighborhood Pearle Vision to get the limited time offer of free lenses for kids 18 and under! Could you use an extra $100 for back to school? Just tell me in the comments below about your child’s vision needs!

So far the kids vision is fine, but since 90% of adults in both our families wear glasses, we will continue having their eyes tested yearly.

My son hasn’t been to the eye doctor yet. I need to take him because he keeps complaining about his eyesight. My whole family wears glasses so I’m sure my son needs them as well.
To be honest I have never brought her to an eye exam, would love to bring her to one.
