We’re sharing our #AFTBYearofAdventure with #LISTERINE as part of a sponsored series for Socialstars™ #BringOutTheBold
One of our goals for our LISTERINE®’s Bring Out the Bold™ campaign challenge this year was to try bold new foods. This is actually hard for us because my kids have long been adventurous eaters. That doesn’t mean we can’t try something new though!
The boys LOVE popcorn as a snack. They eat it often (especially on movie nights). After trying the crazy amazing hurricane popcorn at Bitter and Twisted (a bar in Phoenix) I knew I wanted to bring some of the flavors into a popcorn mix for the boys to try as a new snack.
Usually when we’ve done popcorn mixes it’s just throwing in some candy or other sweets. This time I wanted them to try a savory mix and add whatever they thought would go well together. We started with sort of an Asian inspired blend that came from the popcorn I’d had. I set out some ingredients for the boys and showed them how you can mix in different items while the butter was melted.
To make our favorite blend you’ll need:
- 1 bag of popcorn (or one serving size of kernels if you’re making it on the stove)
- 1 TBSP melted butter
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- sprinkle of garlic powder
- sesame seeds
- dried seaweed shredded
- dry roasted edamame (soy beans) – if they’re really bold try the wasabi edamame!
- salt if your popcorn isn’t salted
Mix everything together in a large bowl so there’s plenty of room for the snacks to combine and mix together. Especially when you’re adding spices. Even better if you can have someone toss while another lightly sprinkles them on.
This flavor combo is bold without being spicy (though it is good with a bit of spice if you like that). The bowl was devoured in minutes. Especially after Dad got home from work. He loved it too!
I love letting the boys experiment with flavors and different combinations. With all the popcorn eating we’ve all been using our LISTERINE® ULTRACLEAN® Dental Floss. We used to not care which floss we used until this one. Now my teen won’t pack for a trip without it. We LOVE it! I know that sounds weird to say, but try it and you’ll see how it’s different than some of the others. Most important, it’s perfect for after popcorn snacking 😉
I’ve been carrying it around in my purse too for when we’re out and about! So far here are some of the other types of popcorn the boys have mixed up and tried:
- Crab pot popcorn – butter and Old Bay seasoning
- Cheesy popcorn – cheese and butter
- Pickle popcorn – dried dill and butter
- Chili Cheese popcorn – butter, chili powder, garlic powder, cheese
Have you tried savory popcorn mixes? We are hooked. These are fun to bring to parties too!
