I LOVE the holidays! Family, friends and parties means lots of food, fun and sometimes kids needing a little entertainment. The best thing about coming up with activities for the kids this time of year is that they can all be themed to the season by just picking up a few new treats from the store. This year we’re ALL about keeping some adorable holiday themed Goldfish crackers around for snacking and playing.
I practically live at Target this time of year and we seem to always throw in a bag of the holiday Goldfish crackers. The Goldfish Holiday Shapes – Cheddar and Goldfish Mix – Chocolate Candy Cane and Pretzel are both exclusive to Target (just another excuse for a Target run) we also have picked up the Goldfish Colors – Red and Green and Goldfish Grahams – S’mores (my youngest’s all time fave). You can save right now with the Cartwheel app on your phone.
We had these out when some friends were over and the kids started using them as game pieces which inspired me to make up a super fun, quick board game they could play all season.
This game would be perfect for a holiday party because there are no “involved” rules and it’s simple enough for a wide range of ages to play.
To start, you’ll just need to print out the game board and die.
Make the die by cutting out, folding on all the squares and folding in the tabs. Apply adhesive to the tabs and glue together.
HOW TO PLAY
Have everyone pick a “player” from your fun holiday Goldfish crackers stash. Make sure to have some extras on hand in case they need to be replaced during game play!
To play, the youngest player starts first by rolling the die. They can move their player to the nearest color matching what was rolled.
If they rolled “lose a turn” they stay where they are until their next turn. Gameplay continues clockwise.
If a player rolls the orange, they go directly to the orange space and get to chose another player’s game piece to eat! That player can replace their piece and start over on their next turn.
The first player to get to the party, wins!
You have a snack and a game all in one! In fact the other night, the boys and I had to test out the game with the Goldfish Grahams – S’mores, just the three of us and we set out a little bowl of S’mores just for snacking!
I LOVE holiday themed snacks – what was the last one you picked up?! Find more snacky inspiration here.
