Has your social media feed started to fill up with adorable back to school pictures yet? Mine has! School is getting underway and the boys and I were joking about having a “lightbulb” moment the other day which gave me a perfect idea for a silly and fun back to school picture idea with lightbulb balloons!
I couldn’t find anything like this so made up a printable for you if you want to make your own, because really, why wouldn’t you?! 😉
To make lightbulb balloons you’ll need:
- Balloon Time Helium Tank (I always have one on hand for special surprises, birthday gifts, parties etc.)
- Yellow and white balloons
- Fishing line
- This printable
- Tape
- Stapler (optional)
Fill your balloons with helium using your Balloon Time tank. Tie some fishing line to the balloons and secure them to the tank until you’re ready to use them.
Print and cut out the bottoms of the lightbulbs from this printable.
I found the easiest way to get these on is to wrap them around the fishing line and secure with staples to make a circle (you could use tape too).
Then taping from the inside secure the printable to the balloon with a few pieces of tape.
Once you’re done, tape them to the back of a chair and snap away!
You could make a whole bouquet for a back to school surprise too. Or use to give an extra little gift to celebrate a great job. I love how these turned out. So much fun and a cute way to celebrate all the bright ideas your kids will have in the next year.
I keep a Balloon Time Helium Tank on hand for fun ideas like this. It makes creating impromptu surprises and gifts so much easier and much more magical. Plus, balloons just make me happy! Happy back to school!

Thanks for another great project idea!
We are using these for our teacher orientation. What a great idea!
How fun!
Been looking all over for a giant light bulb prop that was not outrageously expensive. Will use this as a gift for my niece who just graduated valedictorian of her class. Thank you. Her future is bright!
I hope it worked out well for you! Such a great idea!
Thank you so much for this wonderful idea! We have a senior high improv group with a light bulb logo. We are having a reunion/graduation party in a park since Covid-19 obliterated their spring show schedule at school. Thank you for making the decorations special.
That’s a great idea! Have a great party.
