I love a good Disney themed craft! I came up with the idea to make these when one of my boys kept losing their bookmarks in their backpacks (or on the floor of an airplane). I remembered a magnetic one we had around here at some point so figured I’d try my hand at making our own. You can use any paper but I wanted to use some Disney parks maps I had kept from our last trip! DIY Disney Map Magnetic Bookmarks
To make these bookmarks you’ll need:
- Disney Parks Maps – you can print one here if you don’t have one from your last trip.
- Laminator with Laminating Sheets
- Magnet Strips or Squares
- Dry Adhseive
- Paper Trimmer (optional but definitely helpful)
To start, you’ll first cut your strips. I cut mine about 1.25″ x 5.75″ but you can really do any size you want. Make sure you’re cutting images you want to be on your bookmark.
Decide which strips you’ll use for each bookmark. You’ll want 2 for each bookmark. Place them together and fold them in half so you know which sides to glue together.
Add the magnets to the back of the strip you want on the front of your magnet.
Using the dry adhesive, adhere the other strip to the back covering the magnets.
Run through the laminator. Since the maps are thinner, laminating helps them last MUCH longer. I had thicker magnets but just helped feed them through the laminator and it did great. You could definitely adhere the map to thicker paper but they won’t last as long.
That’s it! Now you have magnetic bookmarks that will hold your page and not get lost in your bag or on the floor of the airplane. These are great to add to a gift as well!
