We LOVE electronic toys and devices in this house! Between my two teenaged boys and myself, we are always rummaging through our drawers for batteries for SOMETHING. I wanted a solution that would actually get used (so definitely not complicated or overly organized), made it easy for me to see what type of batteries we are low on, AND a place to collect batteries for recycling. I decided to DIY a solution that looked great and so far, so good!

DIY Battery Storage Solution
The boys and I saw these new Duracell Optimum batteries at Walgreens. We’ve been buying the AA and AAA versions of these and LOVE them. Duracell is the #1 trusted brand, and these Optimum batteries deliver extra life* in some devices or extra power* in others, vs. Coppertop AA/AAA batteries, which is always important in our house, in a wide range of devices. These batteries are available in AA and AAA in pack sizes of 4, 6, and 12. They also totally inspired the look of my DIY battery storage solution.

Basically, I wanted to keep the batteries somewhere out in a place in our home that everyone gathers. A place that was specifically FOR batteries so we would all always know where they are and don’t have to go digging around for them. I also wanted something that could store the used batteries when we’re done with them.
I decided a simple recycled box was the best solution, and it’s been working great for us! A box specifically for batteries set on a shelf in our living room. Nothing else goes in the box but batteries, so it makes it super easy for me to check our battery stock.

How to Make Simple Battery Storage Boxes
I am a box hoarder, so I found these boxes in my stash, but any box would work – plastic, cardboard etc. I wanted something a little nicer to look good on the shelf, so I used these small wooden ones.
Prep your boxes by removing any labels and/or sanding it down. Cover the box with paint and/or contact paper to fit in with the style of your decor. I was inspired by the Duracell Optimum packaging when I spray painted these ones. 
Once dry, add a label. I attached these cute metal label holders to the front of mine, along with simple full and empty battery icons. I made a few other simple labels, as well, if you don’t feel like making your own. You can print them out with this free printable file here: http://bit.ly/batterylabel.
You can create separate boxes for each battery type or just have them all in one box. I already assumed that one box was good enough for us, and it has been working out great!

The Duracell Optimum batteries come in a new removable storage tray, so you can leave them in the tray or put them all directly in your box. The tray would make it easier to stack up different types of batteries in larger boxes on your shelf.
