Here’s a fun little balancing trick I like showing my friends and family. It looks cool and is easy to set up and perform. Once it’s set up, you can leave it out as something you can challenge guests to figure out. This easy nail balancing trick is a great boredom buster for tweens and teens too.
How to Set Up a Nail Balancing Trick
First of all, obviously be careful when using nails and make sure adults are supervising younger kids if the kids want to set this up and perform it.
The only things you’ll need for this trick are a few nails and a block of spare wood if you want to make it look more impressive and balance all the others on one! The number of nails you’ll need varies on the length of the nail you’re using. For me, I only needed 10, but you could need more than that.
To start, place one nail length-wise on the area you’ll be preparing on. Then start to put as many nails on the middle one like the picture below.
Keep placing nails in that pattern until you’ve placed as many as you can.
After you’ve done that, put one nail on top of all the others to kind of lock them all into place.
Once you’ve finished that, you can try to pick it up! Grab both ends of the middle nails and the other ones that are poking out the other sides should go along with it. You can do this with either one hand or both.
Another thing you can do with this trick is balancing the contraption itself on one nail! To do this, all you have to do is use a hammer to stick the nail in the wood upright. Don’t hit it in to hard or the nails on the outside will touch the wood and it’ll look less impressive. Balancing the nails will take a little bit to figure out the right place to keep it balanced without it falling. That’s it! This trick may take a few tries to get it right but it’s really easy to do once you’ve done it a few times. It’s really similar to something like stacking cards so if you like that, you’ll probably enjoy trying this one! Looking for more easy tricks to learn – here’s a fun list.
