My teenagers have been all about making paninis this year. They are easy and definitely take a lunchtime sandwich up a notch! This pizza panini is simple to modify to your tastes and comes together quickly. Made with Sara Lee® White made with Whole Grain Bread (the boys have decided that the super-soft Sara Lee bread is their preferred choice for lunches made at home this year) and your choice of favorite pizza toppings, what’s not to love?!

Ingredients and Tools Needed to Make a Pizza Panini

First you’ll need your bread and my teens have decided that Sara Lee is their favorite. It’s so soft and they have a whole lineup to choose from depending on what you’re looking for. Some of the options at Walmart include Sara Lee® 100% Whole Wheat Bread, Sara Lee® Butter Bread, Sara Lee® Honey Wheat Bread, Sara Lee® White made with Whole Grain Bread (which is what we got for this recipe) so you definitely have your choice of options to please the family or to fit your meal plans for the week.

Another great thing about the bread is that it’s also nutritious! Sara Lee® White made with Whole Grain Bread contains as much calcium as an 8 oz glass of milk, is a good source of calcium and 9 grams of whole grains per 2 slice serving. Not to mention it’s so soft, fluffy, and delicious and crisps up to make a perfect panini! Check out this site for more recipe inspiration.

You’ll also want all the ingredients you’d like on a pizza like pizza sauce, cheese (mozzarella is always a good choice), pepperoni or ham, and we always love fresh basil! My boys have discovered that a bit of mayo on the outside of the bread helps give their paninis that perfect golden brown crisp on the outside.

Last, you’ll want a panini maker or indoor grill. I bought this one for them at the beginning of summer and they’ve used it to make many things but paninis are definitely their favorite!

How to Make a Pizza Panini

Basically you’ll gather all your ingredients, add a bit of pizza sauce on the inside of each slice of bread, add cheese, meat or any other “toppings”, add a bit of mayo on the outside of the sandwich, and press!
