It feels like we do lots of entertaining in the spring! Easter, parties, the beginning of barbecues… I love having fun decor and table settings, and I’ve been trying to have the boys help more with getting ready for parties. They’ll be awesome hosts when they’re older! We came up with the idea to add jokes to a DIY cutlery holder for our spring table setting and I think it’s genius. They add some fun and are a great conversation starter! My biggest party planning or dinner hosting tip is to prepare anything you can ahead of time. If we are hosting a dinner/brunch party we always try to set the table the day before. This ensures that your table is gorgeous and ready to go without having to run around trying to find everything while you’re also preparing food!
Grab supplies a week or so before so you can play around with how you will display everything. The boys and I decided to go with a mint/orange/pink theme for this Easter/spring brunch. We picked out some scrapbook paper and Chinet® Cut Crystal® for a table setting that would look great but be super simple to clean up.
How to make a cutlery holder out of paper
To make the cutlery holder, choose a double sided 12″x12″ piece of scrapbook paper. Trim the paper to 5.5″ x 12″.
Fold the paper up about 3.5″. Glue the edges with hot glue (or your choice of adhesive). I find that hot glue holds up the best, but if you have fun colored washi tape that works great too! Make sure a napkin and silverware fits in nicely. Print out these joke notes or initial cards (A-H / I-P / Q-X / Y-Z & blank) and trim. Add to your cutlery packets with some glue.
Building a Spring Table Setting
For the table setting, I found some mats of artificial greenery that I thought would make a really fun layer to an easy spring place setting. Afterwards they can be added to Easter baskets or other modern arrangements as decor around the home! Chinet Cut Crystal plates are an easy choice for your table setting because they go with anything! As a bonus, they’re made in the USA, are BPA-free and recyclable (like the scrapbook paper) click here to learn more.
Layer a 12″x12″ piece of scrapbook paper, artificial greenery mat, Chinet Cut Crystal dinner plate, dessert plate, and our DIY cutlery packets with silverware and a napkin. The best party about this type of table setting is that you can create it for ANY party. Easy to put together, easy to clean up and even the kids can help prepare. What’s not to love?! To mix up the adult and kid table settings, I love to add the Chinet Cut Crystal stemless wine glasses to all the settings. The adult’s stay empty (for wine of course) and the kids’ get filled with fruit, a parfait, cereal, dough to play with at the table, small toys or crayons to keep them busy! Have the kids draw fun scenes or make up their own jokes on the blank cards. Most of all, have FUN with your table settings and see how many cheesy jokes you can come up with at the table!
