INTERVIEW: ALISON FROM THIS HOMEMADE LIFE

I was thrilled when Alison agreed to do a little interview for us. I just love getting to know other mom’s of boys! You may remember her from her awesome guest post during Roadtrip Roundup

Hi Alison! Please tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Alison Bickel.  I live in a small town in eastern Nebraska with my husband, 3 boys and our dog Anna.  With 3 boys our house is never short on energy.  Our family time usually involves a ballgame of some sort in the backyard, browsing the aisles at farmer’s markets or cuddling up for a movie and pizza on Friday nights.

What is your blog name and what is it about?  My blog is called, ‘this homemade life…‘ I write and share the things I love…adventures of mothering 3 boys, photography, vegetarian cooking and creative living.  We spend a lot of time in the kitchen making our own projects and food.  The name seemed like a good fit.

What is something unique about your blog?  I like that it is a mix of all areas of my life and the make up of our days.  I initially was just going to start a food blog, to share my love for food and cooking, but it felt too limited.  I decided to make it broader, including projects with the boys, my love for farmer’s markets and photography.  I think the balance works well.

What is your favorite recipe from your blog?  Probably one of the most recent would be the recipe for Garden Veggie Wraps.  I love fresh produce and eating seasonally, so my favorite foods change with the seasons!

What is your favorite thing about boys?  Their creativity.  Each one of them has a different way of expressing it and I love how it is a reflection of their personalities.  My oldest is a writer and loves to share his thoughts and stories through the written word.  My middle boy is a builder.  He can make something out of nothing and is always on the lookout for new ‘building materials’ around the house.  My youngest loves to draw and color.  He tells stories with his pictures.  I can’t wait to see how their creativity will bloom as they grow.  Another thing I love…their freckles.  Each one has just a sprinkling across their nose and cheeks.

What is your favorite boy toy(s)?  I love anything that will spark their imaginations.  It can be a baseball game in the backyard, legos or just a blanket draped over a couple of chairs to make a secret hideaway.  It’s always fun to see what they come up with!
