What is open ended play? Basically play that has no set purpose or limitations, no end goal if you will. Kids can take it where they want and do whatever they want (safely obviously) with the materials in their possession. Placing out different objects, especially ones that aren’t normally out for play, is a great way to encourage exploration and imagination!
Here are some great ideas or inspiration for open ended play:
Meri Cherry shares their ideas for tinker trays.
An Everyday Story has some great ideas to add to a sandpit.
Racheous has some great inspiration for outdoor play
Happy Hooligans shares how much use this bucket and rope gets!
My Nearest and Dearest shares one of my favorites – cardboard and tape!
Look around the house and see what you may have that might be a fun invitation to play!
