Painting Our Way to Organization

We are still finding perfect organization around here and I really wanted to share a fun product we found that works GREAT on any surface. For these projects we used Folk Art Multi Surface Paint and Handmade Charlotte Stencils (which are both available at Michaels). You know I’m a long time fan of Handmade Charlotte so I was definitely excited to try these 2 products together. Here’s what I’m working with:

I was really interested to see how the paint did with different materials so I first used the new Handmade Charlotte Celestial stencils on a fabric drawstring pouch I’ve been saving for projects. I LOVE these pouches for everything from gift giving to organization. I thought it would be fun to paint a fun design for a little bag to carry treasures around in. (If you’re painting on fabric put a piece of cardboard or something underneath/in between)

Tape the stencil on with masking tape.

The “secret to stenciling is blotting NOT wiping or brushing. This will keep the paint from seeping under the stencil. Hold the stencil down as you work and carefully blot away!

Allow to dry between colors to prevent mixing. I wanted to show how it looks just as the stencil is coming off – I really didn’t need to touch up anything!

The great part about this paint is that it’s machine washable (and dishwasher safe)!

Love how it turned out! You could personalize these bags too and they’d be great to hold road trip snacks or toys. My boys (especially when they were little) loved having something to carry around their “treasures” in.

Back to organization – my oldest LOVES to be organized and I’ve been promising him that I’d label some of the containers in his room. A perfect time to try out this paint on metal. These buckets can be found at any hardware store.

Same tips on metal – blot, blot, blot don’t wipe!

So easy
