Last weekend we ditched school and took a bit of a family vacation. Our first stop was The Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa & Marina. We had such an amazing time during our Scottsdale staycation at the Hyatt Regency we thought we’d try out this one in San Diego!

We got there in the evening so it’s always hard to know what a place is going to be like. However the boys were instantly won over by our Tower view of Mission Bay.

It was pretty late so we hurried to dinner at the Red Marlin Restaurant & Terrace and it exceeded our expectations. Jared ordered the (local) scallops and they were seriously the best I’d had. SO good. Colton loved the kids menu.

The next morning we really got to check out the Hyatt. We had no plans other than hanging out and checking out Mission Beach.

The boys loved walking by the marina because you could almost always hear (and see) the sea lions. They were so fun to watch.

The boys wanted to do the property scavenger hunt. You can pick one up from the concierge, fill it out and return it for a small prize.

We spent a lot of time at the pool which is perfect for families!

Some things about the resort we loved for families:

  • Pool
  • Scavenger Hunt
  • Smores
  • Board Games from the concierge (no need to bring your own!)
  • Camp Hyatt
  • Water Taxi to Sea World

We have just recently started choosing places to stay based not necessarily on price but on the whole experience and I can’t tell you what a difference it’s made in our family vacation. Staying somewhere everyone can relax and interact with your kids makes family vacations SO much better. I definitely recommend taking that into consideration on your next vacation. If you’re on a tight budget maybe save for an extra month before leaving and try it just once, you won’t be disappointed and you’d be suprised at the difference you’ll get when you pay just a bit more.

Here are some more photos from our stay in San Diego!

Our room had a fridge so I could get some safe gluten free snacks for a light breakfast/lunch if you don’t want to eat out at every meal. There is a Sprouts pretty close so that’s where we stopped.
