macys-Family holiday traditions then & now
I LOVE the holidays. It’s my favorite time of year because of all the family! I’m a fan of traditions too – old traditions and making new ones. Christmas for us was the one time of year that we got really dressed up. My mom would often dress us up on Christmas Eve to visit some grandparents (I think because she didn’t want to get us all dressed up after waking her up at 5am on Christmas). I loved going around and seeing all our extended family in some of my best dresses – it just felt like the holidayss, like it’s what we were supposed to do and it made our visits that much more special.

Now that I have my own kids, I love dressing them up too. How cute is my youngest in this little man outfit from Macy’s?! He actually does like wearing “handsome clothes” to visit grandparents because they fuss over how cute he looks. I love that the holidays can be a little less traditional with fun colors like these (and more likely to be approved by him).

Family holiday traditions then & now

I had found some photos of mine when getting out the Christmas decorations and it brought back all kinds of holiday memories for me. Visiting family, dressing up, dinners, plays, giving back, staying up late, baking and music during the holidays are some of my favorite childhood memories. I love being a Mom and sharing these memories and traditions with my kids.

I don’t know if it’s the tradition of getting dressed up for the holidays, or just the attention he gets when doing it, but the Christmas Eve “handsome outfit” has definitely become a tradition for us too. We also do matching Christmas jammies each year though I’m not sure how much longer that will last. Childhood is so short and quick – I just want to bottle it all up!

I am hoping the tradition I have passed on to my kids is to go to mass on Christmas day or Christmas Eve.

  22. When I have kids, I would most like to pass down the tradition of opening presents with our immediate family the night of Christmas Eve.

  23. Every year, we back Christmas cookies together. Their favorites are peanut butter with kisses.

  24. Going to Christmas Eve service, coming home to hot chocolate and opening one present.
    Thanks for the contest.

  25. When my children were growing up we were a military family and were never near any other family members. I’d love to be able to say that spending time with extended family was our tradition but I can’t. However, now that they are all adults we do have our family dinner and gift exchange.
The one thing that they carried over from their childhood is baking cookies. I always had cookies for the entire neighborhood. My daughter and granddaughter make so many cookies they could easily feed several families too.

  26. On Christmas morning we put a lit candle in a cupcake and put it in front of the manger and sing Happy Birthday to baby Jesus.

I don’t have any children, but my family has always opened gifts on Christmas Eve night, saving Christmas Day for solely family fun and worshiping Christ. I think that’s an important tradition we’ve passed down to the kids.
