macys-Family holiday traditions then & now
I LOVE the holidays. It’s my favorite time of year because of all the family! I’m a fan of traditions too – old traditions and making new ones. Christmas for us was the one time of year that we got really dressed up. My mom would often dress us up on Christmas Eve to visit some grandparents (I think because she didn’t want to get us all dressed up after waking her up at 5am on Christmas). I loved going around and seeing all our extended family in some of my best dresses – it just felt like the holidayss, like it’s what we were supposed to do and it made our visits that much more special.

Now that I have my own kids, I love dressing them up too. How cute is my youngest in this little man outfit from Macy’s?! He actually does like wearing “handsome clothes” to visit grandparents because they fuss over how cute he looks. I love that the holidays can be a little less traditional with fun colors like these (and more likely to be approved by him).

Family holiday traditions then & now

I had found some photos of mine when getting out the Christmas decorations and it brought back all kinds of holiday memories for me. Visiting family, dressing up, dinners, plays, giving back, staying up late, baking and music during the holidays are some of my favorite childhood memories. I love being a Mom and sharing these memories and traditions with my kids.

I don’t know if it’s the tradition of getting dressed up for the holidays, or just the attention he gets when doing it, but the Christmas Eve “handsome outfit” has definitely become a tradition for us too. We also do matching Christmas jammies each year though I’m not sure how much longer that will last. Childhood is so short and quick – I just want to bottle it all up!

  6. One family tradition is that on Thanksgiving and Christmas we have on the table the celery vase that belonged to my great great grandmother. The Victorians had elaborate dishes and glassware for everything, including celery. This is one of the few things that have been passed down through the generations. I wanted to make sure it would having meaning for my children too. So it is brought out and filled with celery, and my great great grandmother is remembered.

  7. At our house, gifts are opened one at a time. The last person to open one passes out the next gift. We all get to see everyone’s gifts 🙂
