Trying Something New: Mathnasium

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Please see policies for more information.

We now officially have one boy in high school and one attending next year. Every stage adds a new busyness to the schedule that I never expected! Colton is enjoying his last year being homeschooled and we were brainstorming ways we could add a bit more learning into his schedule to prep for high school. Mathnasium offered to work with us to see what we thought of their program so we both jumped at the chance to try it out!

There are 18+ Mathnasium locations to choose from in the Phoenix area and more in other cities and states.

I will be totally honest with you and say that Colton was not excited for his first visit. We attended a free assessment to find out where to start with Colton. I love that they don’t go by grade, but by the skills your child has mastered/needs work on. Once he had his first visit his mind was changed a bit. It wasn’t that bad! Now he is happy to go and even more excited to tell me when he earns “Math bucks” at our location.

Mathnasium is great for kids in elementary all the way through high school. We’re attending the North Peoria location and see kids of all ages. They help with basic math concepts and skills and then blend those with a program specifically designed to help students build number sense which shows them how and why the useful number rules they’re learning work. The middle school math builds upon elementary math’s foundation and focuses on explaining why mathematical rules work so that children learn and understand the rules, not just memorize them. They also help students understand their homework as part of each session and prepare them for school tests, as well as standardized tests such as high school entrance exams.

Mathnasium’s goal is to make math make sense for kids. So far we are loving the approach and Colton has already increased his confidence a bit in the little amount of time he’s gone.

I’m so glad we started and can’t wait to see how he does with a little more time under his belt. Have you looked into Mathnasium for your child? Do you already attend? What do you think?
