Have you set up all your holiday decor yet? When I started collecting things to display I wondered if I’d ever be able to have fragile items in my house. Between 2 toddler boys and 2 big dogs, it as all plastic and stuffed toys. One year we made this interactive snow globe, snowscape, terrarium… whatever you want to call it, and it’s been a hit ever since.
It’s super cute to display and the scene can be mixed up as often as the kids (or you) want!
Start with a large jar and add some sugar (or salt if you don’t want the kids sneaking a snack throughout the day, I learned this the hard way). You could also use the magic “instant snow” for a colder snow.
We made a snowman from air dry clay but you can use any sort of dough along with anything else you might find around the house or in your holiday decor stash.
Once the snowman was ready, we added him into the glass jar and covered it with “snow”.
Then placed some trees around the jar. You can pick these up online or in several types of stores this time of year.
Now, just change up the scene whenever you feel like it.
Some ideas are:
- Gingerbread house/village
- LEGO scene (use your advent calendar pieces)
- car/city scene
- toy snowball fight
- sugar cube igloo
- iced ice cream cone Christmas tree
- paper village homes
Have fun with it and set it up each year for a new yearly tradition. This looks cute displayed on a shelf, or if you have younger kids that are going to want to play with it often, set it up in the kitchen. Sometimes you can find plastic display jars in the party section of Target or the craft store if you’re worried that the kids might try to carry a big glass jar around.
